How Does Solar Energy Work?

January 10th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Environment

Solar energy uses photovoltaic solar panels to harness the power of the sun. Simply put, solar panels are made from thin silicon sheets that turn sunlight into usable energy. There are a whole lot of highly technical terms that can be thrown around, but home solar is popular because it saves consumers money. Solar energy is far more efficient that non-renewable energies. As it becomes more popular, the cost of solar panels has fallen dramatically. You might not be happy when you hear that you neighbors were able to get their solar panels for a fraction of the price that you paid, but you can take solace in the fact that your energy bill has been low for years. Like any other investment, solar cost is made up for on the back end. The best thing about investing in solar panels is the fact that there is no cap on the savings. Month after month, your electricity payments will continue to go down until the point that your energy company is writing you a check.

There are programs being developed that will allow homeowners to sell their excess solar energy on the open market. After your solar panels are completely paid for, producing energy won’t cost you a thing. This means that homeowners will be able to compete with energy companies directly. If another consumer has the choice of paying an electricity company hundreds of a dollars month or using solar energy that has been harnessed by homeowners for considerably less, it is obvious who they will pick. You may not be an entrepreneur, but buying solar panels could turn your into a business owner. Most of these projects are still years from completion, but in the meantime you can save more money on your energy bills than you ever thought was possible.
